I actually kinda liked it. Not as good as the first two but still pretty good. I like that they aren’t afraid to kill off thier heros.

saskboy: The writing was just weak. The second one was like a good comic book: over the top, well written, fast paced, with decent characters. In this one, the characters just were boring, and the dialogue was predictable.
A couple of my favourite moments (without giving anything away):
I don’t suggest dropping cash for this one in the theatre. Rent it.
But if you do decide to shell out real cash, make sure you stay until after the credits. From Martin’s comment, it sounds like he didn’t…
1. Magneto has a tendency to not want to kill mutants (at least not outright). Humans he’s ok with because he sees them as inferior beings and sacrificing some mutants (especially ones he sees as inferior) in the fighting is ok but outright killing a mutant is another story. But at least in the comic book he took the time to rip Wolverine’s metal out of his body. You would think he’d take a minute to rough Wolverine up a bit more, perhaps break his neck and back knowing that he would heal eventually.
2. I didn’t think they all wanted to go home, just send the kids home. Even if they had closed the school the X-Men would have stayed together. But I saw this scene as yet another one designed to show Halle Berry’s range of acting abilities (I’m not a big fan of hers so this was a bit of sarcasm on my part). Did you notice her scenes always had to switch like a chameleon, start off sad, jump to determined, now angry, now laugh with Beast, go back to angry,… Ever since the first movie she’s been a pain in the arse with her complaining about her character.
There were quite a few nitpicky parts. Ok, so Magneto wants to send his pawns in first that’s fine. But he can attack from a distance and let’s look at two of the people he’s up against, one has a metal skeleton and the other has metal skin. Not the two heroes I’d put up against Magneto. But let’s aimlessly throw cars instead, that’s much more impressive than simply wiping them out. Or how Logan’s uniform and skin is being ripped away but somehow his pants stay intact. I guess we should be thankful for that.
The one thing they did get kinda right personality-wise was Juggernaut. People complained about how Magneto tells him to keep Logan out of the house and the first he does when they start to fight is throw Logan into the house (allowing Logan to be there at the pivotal scene) or how the X-Men deal with him during the final fight (avoiding spoilers here). But it fits because Juggernaut is supposed to be a moron. So either on purpose or just out of dumb luck they actually got him right.
In the end, I found it better than I expected it to be but I had pretty low expectations going in. I would say the biggest disappointment for me was having us watch these life altering events only to take them away at the end so we can pick up with the next movie as if this one never even happened.
I stayed. But he wasn’t the only one who died. I still stand by my original assesment. It was a fun movie and in an age of rehashing the same old same old, it was fun and I’m glad cyclops dies. Never liked him.
As for the plot holes and bad writting, I think you forgot to switch to Hollywood mode before the movie. You have to drop your IQ a 50 points and just go with it. If you’re gonna see movies like this, you can’t expect great art.
Martin: It’s a comic book movie so who says Cyclops is dead? We never even see his body which in comic book world means he ain’t dead.
Killing him was bad in my opinion. Two things led to this decision, 1) Wolverine is popular and you can’t have him stealing another man’s woman so you have to bump Cyclops out of the way. 2) James Marsden signed on to be in Superman. Fox was reluctant to even have Marsden back after his decision. They partly said that it was scheduling but that also has to do with Fox rushing X-Men 3 pushing the release date to beat Superman to theatres.
Why it shouldn’t have happened in my opinion, this was a good opportunity to show character in Cyclops instead of having everything revolve around Wolverine. In the Dark Phoenix Saga the love that Cyclops and Wolverine showed for Jean was at its peak but it was Jean’s love of Cyclops that made the story more emotional and brought her to sacrifice herself. This shift of removing other characters so we can have the story focus on Wolverine is why I’ve come to dislike Logan all the more.
Any particular reason without giving the ending away? Was it just a rehash of events from the last 2?
