The other election

The Green Party leadership is currently up for grabs, but don’t forget about the other race going on: the race to form federal council. After some discussion here at Pie Palace, one of the candidates was kind enough to post a link to a survey of the Council candidates.

And what a messy race it is becoming.

Pressure has been placed on the May camp to drop endorsement for Holloway, using faxes of perfectly fine audits of Holloway’s work as fodder. Sounds illogical, except it is a silent threat: we have stuff. They send nothing defamatory in order to avoid legal trouble.

They also have nothing on her.

The Membership Review Committee (MRC), a committee formed of mainly Harris loyalists (if not completely) to get around the Ombuds committee (the Ombuds actually uses due process), is apparantly bringing a complaint forward to a special session of council (not yet determined — know more Sunday) in order to seek disciplinary action against Holloway. This is not yet fully confirmed, but Bill Hulet has been possibly making noise ‘out there’ and in most certainly in GPC-COUN.

The MRC is composed completely of people running for council, none of them Holloway supporters. This is highly irregular.

They have considered only ONE case.

It is not confirmed to be Holloway. They are keeping the subject’s identity a secret while circulating whatever ‘evidence’ they have around council. Once again, the Ombuds process that is supposed to be followed does not allow this.

Smears have been going out (I have copies) against Holloway, claiming she is guilty of fiscal improprieties. None are true.

With all this going on, Harris is planning an announcement to support her opponent. In his own words

    DO NOT FORWARD TO ANYONE

I am thinking of sending the following message out far and wide to all
my contacts within the GPC. Please comment confidentially back to me.
I will not quote you but may incorporate your improvements into what I
send out. I will treat your feedback confidentially. By not stating
any of the problems with Kate – no arguments can be made against this
position. I will use all the equity that all party members have with
me – to say “trust me” vote this way.

Please send your feedback as soon as you get this as people have
already got their ballots. Here’s the message:

    Very Important

Next to the leader and the Chair of Federal Council, the most
important position is that of Chief Agent. For Chief Agent I very,
very, very strongly recommend the following voting preferences:

    Colin Griffiths 1

    None of the Above 2

    Kate Holloway 3

    Jim Harris

    Leader, GPC

    =====

    For Greens, this is nasty.

    That’s the bunker at work.
