Incidentally, I noticed today that my iPod Nano scroll wheel works when I am wearing my MEC cycling gloves. I like wearing these gloves because they provide a bit of warmth, but still let me do things like get stuff out of my wallet or dial my cell phone.

As far as I know, the iPod scroll wheel and the iPod Touch screen are both capacitive sensing, which works as long as your finger is "close enough" to the screen. So even though I haven't tried, I suspect that the touch screen would work with these gloves on too.

I don't think Rideau Centre still has lockers just the friendly coat check... Bayshore still has lockers.. But don't tell the terrorists...

The question is weather your Creative player is as pretty as the Ipod Touch... If I could justify the money on a Touch, I would probably buy some sort of remote(there are several) so I wouldn't have to worry about weather issues...

Design isn't just driven by needs of the market, it's driven by what the market is likely to buy, and markets have to be hugely profitable in order to get things designed specifically for them. And when it comes down to it, most people go for shiny over practical.

@MG: I had no idea that the Rideau Centre still offered lockers. The ones that I used to use (top level, near the OC Transpo booth) were removed shortly after 9/11.

As to MP3 players: I bought a Creative player specifically because it has buttons. I can keep it in my pocket and control it without having to peer at it. It's functional during the winter, and I suspect it will work just as well in the summer.

From the Rideau Centre Website:

COAT & PARCEL CHECK
Check up to three items for a cost of $2.00. Items may not be left overnight.

Plus, around Christmas I'm a frequent user of the Bayshore locker section.

Architecture can provided space for coat checks and and long-john change rooms, but the owners of the space have to want to provide that service..

As for MP3 players, I don't think it's practical to design a device that is only really useful for half the year.. And then only when you are outside. I prefer something more along the lines of the Burton Audex Ipod Jacket, it has a remote that is specially designed to work with the coat that can control your ipod.

What it comes down too with MP3 players, is don't buy an Ipod touch if you are worried about the cold...
