New favourite wine

In this time of economic and political uncertainty, alcohol increases its importance in our day-to-day lives. As such, I am nominating Schmitt-Soehne Relax Riesling as Pie Palace’s wine of the month. It’s sweet, reminding you of the Harper government’s possible implosion; and low acid, so won’t exacerbate any indigestion you may be feeling due to your tanking investments (or utter lack of investments).

It has only now become your favorite? I think you introduced me to this wine a year and a half ago.

Is there a 2 year testing program before something becomes your favorite? Did they stop producing something so there was an opening for the top spot? Has there been some recent change to your pallet that we aren’t aware of?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Not my favourite wine, but it’s not bad.

Three things happened to push Relax to my top spot:

    1. I drank most of a bottle before writing this post.
    2. The cost dropped substantially from when I first saw it at the Wine’n'Pickup show (for some reason I remember it being priced over $20/bottle, but I could be wrong)
    3. I’ve given up on my “only drink at home what you’ve never drunk before” mantra. I’m tasting a lot fewer wines, but I tend to enjoy them more. Especially given that I drink in the sub-$15 price range.
